West Africa Network of Election Observers as a regionally-oriented and regionally-focused civil society organization is dedicated to promoting all African Union Policy Instruments bordering on democracy, elections, good governance, human and people’s rights, sustainable development, peace and security across West Africa.
WANEO is premised on cooperating, partnering, collaborating and building sustainable alliances with all credible institutions, departments, agencies, organizations, groups and individuals at the local, national, regional, continental and international level of governance and development towards promoting sustainable democracy, good governance, credible elections, peace and stability in West Africa. Consequentially, one of the key priority areas of WANEO since its establishment is promoting the relentless policy awareness campaign on the African Charter on Democracy, Election and Governance (ACDEG) by ensuring that, adherence to the charter is appreciably and fully complied with by all State Parties of West African Nations of the African Union. This is because, the African Charter on Democracy, Election and Governance (ACDEG) is one of the most ambitious continental policy frameworks of the African Union to help propel the promotion, consolidation and sustainability of democracy, good governance , respect for human rights and the rule of law ,and credible elections towards attaining sustainable development, peace and stability for the West African people. Hence, the prominent need for all governments, public and private institutions, organizations, departments, agencies, groups and individual citizens of West Africa to collectively help implement the objectives, principles and vision of the continental policy framework earmarked for the betterment of the African people.
THE AFRICAN UNION GUIDELINES FOR ELECTION OBSERVATION AND MONITORING MISSIONS WANEO as a fully-fledged non-profit, non-partisan and independent think-tank is highly focused on deepening local, national and regional policy advocacy on the adherence and compliance of the African Union Guidelines for Elections Observation and Monitoring Missions by public and private institutions promoting democracy across West Africa. WANEO pursues this ambitious cause by working with all relevant democratic institutions at the local, national, regional, continental and international levels towards advancing democracy, good governance, human rights and credible elections for sustainable development, peace and stability across West Africa. This is because the strict adherence and compliance with all the African Union and the UN Guidelines for Election Observation and Monitoring by all stakeholders in the democratic process is key to ensuring credible and peaceful elections across West Africa.

The OAU/AU declaration on principles governing democratic elections in Africa has immensely contributed in diverse ways to the advancement of multi-party democracy, good governance, credible elections, development, peace and stability across the West African Region, hence, the prominent need to consolidate the gains made so far across the West African Region.
