Sustainable empowerment and strengthening of democratic institutions and agencies in the Countries of the West African Sub-region is prerequisite to consolidating and sustaining democracy , good governance ,human rights and the rule of law ,transparency and accountability , peace and security to guarantee sustainable development across the West African Sub-region . In accordance with the United Nations Principles relating to the Status of National Institutions (UN Paris Principles) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGSR 48/134) resolution 48/134 of 20th December ,1993 , National Institutions and Agencies in all the 15 ECOWAS Member Countries must adequately conform to the universally acceptable standards ,principles and values binding on all West Africa States who are Members of the United Nations to promoting ,defending and strengthening democracy and good governance, human rights and the rule of law, peace and security in our collective efforts to advance the sustainable development priorities of West African States towards improving the general wellbeing of the West African peoples . Consequentially , the 2015 United Nations Sustainable Goals(SDGs) therefore recognizes the need for all Countries in West Africa to build and strengthen peaceful ,just and inclusive West African Society that provides equal access to justice that are based on respect for human rights and human dignity including the rights to development on effective rule of law and good governance at all levels and on transparent ,effective and accountable democratic institutions . Meanwhile, Goal 16 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) is directly relevant to democracy , that lay much emphasis on all UN Member States to commit adequate resources and investment by prioritizing Justice ,Peace and Strong Institutions in all Countries of the World and for the matter emphatically for West Africa Countries to seriously prioritize strengthening and empowering Democratic Institutions which are the instruments for promoting and sustaining peace and security , justice and the rule of law in all Countries of West Africa . Strong democratic institutions under Goal 16 of the UN SDGs is greatly relevant to the democracies of West Africa Nations which includes democratic institutions such as Parliaments ,Judicial Establishments ,National Commissions and Quasi-Judicial Organizations ,National and Local Regulatory Institutions and Agencies ,National and Local Implementing Agencies and Organizations, Political Parties ,Civil Society Organizations and Institutions with a commitment to promote peaceful ,just and inclusive societies for sustainable development , provide access for all and build effective , accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels in the West African Sub-region. The Aspiration 3 of the African Union Agenda 2063 which seeks to secure for the West African peoples , an Africa of resilient democracy and good governance , respect for human rights and freedoms ,justice and the rule of law is founded and powered by strong and independent institutions towards achieving all the seven(7)key Aspirations of the AU Agenda 2063 across the West African Sub-region . Additionally, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognizes that, political, social, economic and environmental progress and development depends on effective, responsive and inclusive governance that is spearheaded by robust, responsive ,inclusive and accountable democratic institutions for the general good and improving the wellbeing of the peoples of West Africa.

WANEO will also continue to partner with all relevant international ,regional and sub-regional institutions agencies tailored to strengthening and empowering weak and ineffective public institutions that are funded by the taxpayers of West African Nations in accordance with international best practices and internationally accepted standards in public administration and management of public institutions , so as to help improve high efficiency ,productivity ,responsiveness ,resilience and inclusivity in the overall composition ,administration and management of public institutions ,departments and agencies in the democratic governance and development processes of West African Countries . WANEO will further leverage on all the fullest support, cooperation and funding of leading democracy assistance institutions and stakeholders and donor partners in West Africa and around the World for its operational projects and activities across the West African Sub-region in our collective efforts in empowering and strengthening democratic institutions across West Africa. This is because ,WANEO since its establishment has placed great premium on democracy advancement ,consolidation and sustainability which requires the continuous cooperation and technical support of all relevant stakeholders at the international ,regional ,sub-regional , national and local level in ensuring that, the good peoples of West Africa indeed reap the full dividends and returns of true democratic governance in their respective Countries and Communities in the West African Sub-region. In the light of the above , WANEO is poised and determined to consolidating its innovative and dynamic sub-regional ,regional and international networking and collaborative partnerships in the implementation of mutually essential and shared priority programme and projects in earmarked target countries and communities across West Africa towards the consolidation and sustainability of democracy and good governance, human rights and freedoms, justice and the rule of law, development ,peace and security in West Africa. WANEO believes that, forging a strong and collective community power and strengthening collaborative force and solidarities within the civil society space in West Africa and around the World in a continuous basis remain the surest and best civic methodology in achieving sustainable development results and outcomes towards improving the general wellbeing of the peoples and also transforming the overall governance and development architecture of West African Nations .Hence, WANEO will continue strengthening institutional ties and collaborative partnership and networking with all relevant and credible civil society institutions and actors in reshaping and transforming the overall governance and development architecture and processes of West African Nations , in our collective democratic struggle to secure for the good peoples of West Africa ,sustainable ,resilient ,prosperous and inclusive communities ,localities and institutions and agencies for the present and future generations of the West African Sub-region.
