PROMOTING AND SUSTAINING ELECTORAL INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN WEST AFRICA

Transparency and integrity in the management and administration of electoral processes is sine-quanon to securing a free, fair ,credible and peaceful elections in a democracy ,hence, WANEO is committed to promoting and sustaining transparency and integrity in every aspect of the electoral processes and electioneering in West Africa , the African continent and around the World. Therefore, transparency and integrity in elections requires an atmosphere free of fears, intimidation and manipulations before, during and after elections. Security and integrity during election process is critical especially during vote counting and transmission of election results . This is because, the high level of transparency and integrity of the electoral process helps to guarantee a free ,fair ,credible and peaceful elections, as such ,WANEO in accordance with its organizational vision and mission of existence , places high premium on transparency and integrity in all stages of the electoral processes in its operational projects across West Africa.
Consequentially, the openness, clarity and coherence of the whole electoral process ,coupled with the security and sanctity of all the electoral materials helps to guarantee the transparency and integrity of the democratic electoral processes. In the light of the above, WANEO is more committed and determined to strengthening its sustainable cooperation and collaboration with its partners and all stakeholders towards deepening and sustaining the universally accepted values and principles of democracy and election management and administration. Electoral integrity and transparency continue to remain the pivot of measuring and assessing the quality and beauty of democratic elections and transitions after the conduct of genuinely contested democratic elections that respect internationally accepted standards and values in the democratization process. WANEO will adequately advance its continuous election policy reform campaign in ensuring that, all Election Management Bodies (EMBs) across the 15 West African Countries conform to the regional and sub-regional policy standards and policy instruments that govern national and local democratic elections in Africa, including all internationally prescribed treaty obligations and policy guidelines for the conduct of transparent and credible elections in West Africa towards the sustainability and consolidation of democracy and development ,peace and security in the West African Sub-region .
